James Alexander Marshall Virginia City, Nevada - February 22, 1865 Virginia Citty February the 1865 22 Dear Sister I again seet myself to writte you a fiew lines augustus and my self are well I have not mutch to write I have now been away from home ten months and all of that time I have recieved but one letter and that was from you that I got at forte Larimee gustus has recieved two letters from Billy Higgins and by that mens we have heard from home we have dun nothing since about the first of December and are doing nothing now as it has been very cold aul winter I have written several letters to you and Mah and Fanny Elliott Fanny A I mean if I don’t receive answers to this I will have to write to someboddy elce I thinke wages will be very good her this summer as ther has been several new gulches discovered lately that are saide to be very rich - silver bow, Last chance grizly gulch and Jermin gulch and some others Last chance is said to bee the richest I thinke I shall go to some of the new discoveries in a shorte time everything is high here worke Cattel are worth from seventy five to one hundred and fifty dollars per yoke flower is worth from twenty two to twenty ate badly spell dollars per sack baken is worth from forty to sisty five cence per pound and other things in perportion Write as sone as you get this and tell me now what you are all doing and what you are a going to do direct your letters to Virginia Citty Montana ter so nothing more at present But remains your affectionaet Brother James A.
