My Dear Cousin,

I have received your letter, stateing that you were not coming out here this summer, I was somewhat disappointed, had mad calculations on seeing you all again, and I still hope too. Mr. Parrish and Emira, have gone before this time I suppose, if so my good wishes go with them, and hope they will do well. I am sorry that Amanda’s husband has poor health. You wanted to know if I thought he could make a living out here Well. I think he can. You know there are many things to be done in town. that is not as hard work, as it is to work on a farm. If I was in his place I would sell everything he has and come on the Overland Stage. he can come in sixteen days to Virginia. I wish some of you would come, if you think you would be satisfied here. I know any one that will work atall can make a liveing here easier than they can in Missouri. All of Fathers folks were well when I heard from them last. I have not heard from Uncle James since I wrote to you before. We have had the misfortune to lose an infant Son since I wrote you. he was born on the 12th of February and died on the 14th had he lived we would have called him William Carroll. Our little Samie is well, and grows so fast. the first time I go to Carson I will have his picture taken and send it to you. I was so glad to get yours and think you look natural. send me a photograph when you have one taken and the other little Girls also (and the Boys too)

I will send you a collar as I have not any thing else that I can send in a letter. I made it myself. I will send a piece of my dress also. Mr. Russell got it for me before Emily died but I did not make it up untill this Spring. I wore it to church last Sunday for the first time. If you are going to be an Old Maid, you must come and spend part of your lonely days with me and perhaps you will like (or love) the one that I have chosen for your protector. he is very good looking, and his name is Walt Billings how do you like it. he is very much “smitten” with your picture. When my claim gets to paying I will send you the money to pay your expenses out here if you will come. Alexander or Agustus will come too. Give Our love to all the family and write ever two weeks. I will

Your affectionate
Cousin H.O. Russell
