Dear Mary,

We are tolerable well this morning and hope this may find you well. This is a lovely morning just like spring. this has been the most pleasant winter I have ever seen. We haven’t had two weeks of cold winter weather that is something remarkable in this place. I wish you could see my sweet little boy. he is sitting by eating an Orange. He calls it a pumpkin Mr. Parish was braging on his boys. tell him I think mine would take the premium. I suppose you remember Columbus Mcfarlin. he is married but I do not know who to. I guess his Sister will remain single as her Mother would not let her marry the man she loved. By the way do you think of changeing your name soon: do not marry untill you come out here so that I can see you. let me have the honor of standing up with you. How is Augustus, is he as full of mischief as he used to be. I remember how he teased you and I about our Dolls when I was at your house. Well I must close my letter and send it to the Office, and go to work. all though I do not have much to do at present. We have hired a woman at present. Give my love to Aunt and all the children. Does Johnie remember me. Wish bushells of love for yourself: I am ever your affectionate Cousin,
                                                                                                                    Hattie
